Description
...or in english the Space Humpback (Manatee) Whale, is a rare species of alien found roaming in the Alpha Quadrant of deep space.
Only one has ever been seen by Captain Calius Kirk and the grew of the U.S.S Alliant, a mere calf which they rescued from the womb of its dead mother. The calf, a male dubbed "Peanut" followed along side the Alliant for many years, as he imprinted the ship as its mother.
From observation from the science officers on board the Alliant, the Space Humpback whale is much like its earth cousins, minus a few key differences.
The Space Humpback is capable of going into warp with the aid of its many dorsals, which have been properly labeled "Warp fins". These fins turn bright white/blue when going into Warp. Shockingly, the Space Humpback can reach Warp 9, matching most starships. Another characteristic is the manatee like tail (which is where the later part of the scientific name comes from)
They are non-aggressive from observation but stubborn. Many times Peanut has done considerable damage to the Alliant's haul trying to nurse or scratch, or simply get attention. Science officers take turns going out via shuttle to play with Peanut and get samples from him.
Because they are creatures that live in space, their diet is very much unknown. Peanut has been viewed eating small chunks of asteroids, comets and dilithium. Unlike their earth cousin, the Space humpback is toothed whale but does not eat meat.
Once the Q Continuum joined alliance with the Federation, more close up research has been conducted on Peanut, who now roams space freely but often visits any starships that cross his path.

Definitely one of the most adorable space whales/manatees. I suspect Peanut's race were uplifted in a joint project by the Whale Probe builders and Species 8472 from humpbacks and manatees and were cyborged at the cellular level with nanites containing femtotech components to give them warp travel abilities. By a strict biological definition, Peanut may not be considered an animal as animals get their calories and nutrients from other living things and do not have 100% mass to energy conversion reactors.
